Being Safe

Safe Practices

Across the last two years, we have experienced the beginning of a new 'normal' way of being in our community. Braver Together has continued to provide support in a caring manner by minimising risk through being aware and working safely.
There are a range of safe-work-practices that help us create and maintain a safe, inclusive and respectful caring environment. We all have responsibility to protect each other from personal risk.

Being risk aware

In any pastoral care, counselling or therapeutic work, there are risks to the care provider and the client. Being risk-aware is not just about the COVID-19 virus, there are a range of factors that influence how risky it is to meet in-person. Braver Together seeks to assess the risk before commencing  and during the delivery of any pastoral care, counselling or therapeutic work.
Our Wellbeing, Health and Safety Policy provides a clear description of our approach to minimising risk and maximising our pastoral care, counselling or therapeutic support.

If you're worried about COVID-19, you can find out more about staying safe and healthy at the following ACT Government webpage: www.covid19.act.gov.au/stay-safe-and-healthy/symptoms-and-getting-tested/symptoms-of-covid-19

Infection control

Infection control something that applies to both the care-provider, the client and the client's family or shared-home environment. To help stop the virus spreading we need to:
  • wear a face covering, when indoors and not eating or drinking something together,
  • avoid crowded spaces, like food-courts in shopping malls, busy and crowded outdoor or indoor venues.
  • clean our hands and the surfaces we touch regularly,
  • stand 1.5 metres apart from each other, and
  • self-isolate and get tested if you have any symptoms of a viral infection, no matter how mild.
The main symptoms of any viral infection can include:
  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Sore Throat
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • New loss of smell or taste
  • New runny or blocked nose.
  • A persistent headache
  • A skin rash

Why is immunisation important?

Vaccination has a long history of beneficial and life-saving outcomes, for a range of diseases. Immunisation saves lives and protects you and those you love most. Many infectious diseases are now rare or are no longer around as a result of vaccination programs. However new diseases, such as COVID-19, are appearing around the world.
Some people cannot get vaccinated due to being too young or too sick. Together, as a community, we can help protect these vulnerable people by being vaccinated. When enough people are vaccinated against a disease, the spread of that disease slows down or stops completely. This is one way we can care for those who are most vulnerable.
Vaccinations:
  • keep you safe
  • keep your loved ones safe
  • keep others safe.
